What tune has defined this year in hard dance for you?
Without a shadow of a doubt Rob O.T.T's phenomenal "Reqiuem" - he sent me a copy very early in 2007, probably around March I think, and it's been my most consistently played tune ever since - in fact it was the tune that brought him to my attention, and since then I've signed him to my label DiabloTraxx as our in-house producer/engineer!! The track has everything I look for in a tune - tight, fast and energetic percussion, a killer riff and an absolute monster of a rolling bassline that does the job every time!
What has been your biggest achievement of the year?
I'd have to say being asked to tour Australia and spread a little bit of the Ajay love - or mayhem, depending how you look at it! I played some of the most amazing gigs of my career out there, most memorable being a 2 hour headline set at Sydney's famous UN superclub! The clubbers and the venues themselves really are amazing and I'd recommend playing out there to anyone - such responsive crowds and great atmospheres, and of course there's the gorgeous weather too!
What moments in the last year will you always remember?
Achieving so many personal goals including playing Raindance - I used to have their flyers on my schoolbooks 15 years ago so that was a huge thing for me - playing Ministry of Sound, seeing the main room at SEOne erupt to the sound of "Requiem" at 4am, TV interviews, it's been such a whirlwind it's unreal. Plus of course there have been some off the hook afterparty moments with the usual Milton Keynes suspects - you know who you are! For the right price, I might just share the photos...
What exciting things do you have planned for next year?
Well the coming 12 months is going to be based on further development of what I've done this year - I want to make DiabloTraxx a hugely respected label, to push the artists' profiles and generally just do my little bit to help kick the Hard Dance scene back into shape. Gigs wise - I'm really enjoying the international gigs right now and I'm already in talks regarding a return tour to Australia and some huge events out there, as well as some pretty exciting European bookings too. No rest for the wicked as they say - but of course I won't be forgetting my roots here in good old England and am about to announce a couple of very exciting new residencies to that effect. So I guess lots more of the same really!
