Alex Kidd - My Year In Hard Dance

What's been your biggest achievement of the year?

This year's path was all about Kiddfectious rather than Alex Kidd and I think the Kiddstock events and the big Kiddfectious events at Warehouse Project etc have been huge achievements.But on the DJ front i would have to say DEFQON 1 in Sydney was pretty special as well as Judgement Sundays and The Zoo in Ibiza. They have been standout gigs to play at in 2009.My debut tour of USA though, i can't forget to mention that either, it was beyond words.

What moments will you never forget?

I have a crap memory so the most recent ones will always spring to mind. The big events stand out because the sheer scale of them make them so breathtaking. I played 2 sets at Dancevalley this year but my set in the hardstyle arena was immense. I remember the tent being at capacity with people literally pouring out the sides because it was so rammed. The sun was blazing through the middle of the arena and i just had to take a step back for a second and think , fuck 'im living the dream' - ha! More personal memories such as seeing my mum at Kiddstock raving to Ratpack was a pretty surreal memory of the year too.

Who's been your favourite newcomer of the year?

On the DJ front id say keep an eye out for Argy, we have signed him up to the kiddfectious All stars and he is destined for big things. BRK3 are some producers based in Australia and although they have years of experience they are newcomers to the hard dance scene and some of their work is impressive.

Who's been the artist of the year for you?

Its been a mixed bag this year.. My usual favorites have shined through yet again. German bad boys Kamui and ASYS have been doing the damage. Showtek have been flying the flag for Holland as predicted. In Italy; Technoboy, Activator and Tuneboy have done some good tracks and in the UK there has been some good sounds from Vinylgroover , Neal Thomas and my boy Kidd Kaos yet again. But iv found myself playing alot of stuff that wouldn't normally be considered hard dance and that has been working well too. Check out stuff by Ryeland , Len Faki and Max Walder...

What's been your favourite label of the year?

I think DMW has had some strong releases, as has K405 and my own Kiddfectious imprint. The glory days of the label seem to be undervalued now which is a crying shame to be honest..

What do you think has been the best track of the year?

Always a tough one to answer so ill stick with the obvious one - La Roux - In for The Kill (Alex Kidd crash re-edit). Although im getting a bit sick of it now, it has blown the dancefloor up all over the world this year, from Ibiza to Australia, from Canada to Holland and from Finland back to the UK , this bootleg has been responsible for some international destruction!

What's been your favourite event of the year?

I had special times at Kiddstock Wales and Kiddfectious V Judgement at Warehouse Project. When staging big events i think the hype and the timing is crucial. We had both of these on our side to make them such successful parties to keep the scene healthy and alive in 2009.

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you?

erm not at all hard dance related, but the other day i left the office in my house to get a sandwich. I left my business partner in the office to work and by the time i came back 15 minutes later he had a door to door sales man sat on the couch. My partner decided to sign me up to the full sky HD package with phone, broadband,all the movie channels ....the lot! All in my name on my direct debit. I didnt find it funny at the time but its nearly xmas now so its come in useful i suppose for the Only Fools repeats.

What do you have planned for the next year?

Iv spent alot of years building my name on the DJ circuit. I have also spent the last few years working on events and parties. id like to spend my next year concentrating on making music and the Kiddfectious record label so i guess ill be hibernating in the studio between being on the road. Good times ;)
