What tune has defined this year in hard dance for you?
I really don't feel as though one tune can encompass 2007 in a nutshell, hard-dance has grown and expanded to have so many angles... However, coming originally from the outdoor psytrance scene, hearing a lot of the euro stuff throw the structure out the window, use the rolling bassline more predominately and generally breaking the 'rules' has made it an exciting year. I hate rules :).
What has been your biggest achievement of the year?
Hearing that Dj Proteus had been playing my tracks out, making his top 10 list. For someone who has only been focused on the indoor/hard dance side of things for a little over 12 months, that blew my mind. Being asked Australia wide to tour is always exciting, I've seen a huge amount of Oz now, met some amazing people and played to some outrageous crowds.
What moments in the last year will you always remember?
Whoa, where to start?! Some of the stranger ones for starters.. Throwing smarties/Yagermeister all over the crowd at Dreamscape in Cairns was a laugh and finding a single rose on my laptop after performing in Melbourne was a nice touch, its the small things you remember huh. Climbing the desk, screaming the words to "Superbeast" and having the crowd join in was utterly insane, turned from a dance event to a rock concert moshpit, amazing stuff.
What exciting things do you have planned for next year?
Where to begin! 2nd year of focusing on the 'indoor' styles, anything could happen. I've been studio bound now for three months working on a lot of new material, remixes of huge rock tracks + my own gear, its had a lot of interest from a variety of sources, hush hush, time will tell, about time to put some stuff on the shelves. Clearing samples for some remixed tracks for release is another, its time consuming but worth it in the end and better than a lawsuit :). I intend to push myself and my production to the limits this year, striving to perfect my sound. Not DJing and only producing means my music and live performance is my proving ground, not deck skills, so its here my focus will be.
Have plenty of touring planned yet again, being a pure live act has its advantages; Cairns, Adelaide and Melbourne before May with talk of Japan amongst others. I'm also keen on elaborating on the Live rig, playing alongside guitarists/vocalists is always fun and rarely seen. On the music side, more experimentation fusing different styles of music from all walks into the raw chunk that we love. I have a huge amount of appreciation for artists whom strive to be unique, not resorting to the "but this is how its done" mindset; our music requires constant innovation. In saying that, I have a few collaboration tracks lines up with some more notable names, its amazing the tricks you learn and the ideas two heads can come up with.
Can't wait to hear/see what we as a community come up with this year, both musically and as a culture.
