Klubfiller - My Year In Hard Dance

What's been your biggest achievement of the year?

Well 2009 has defiantly been my best year to date; things have really gone up a notch. There are too many achievements to list really, but I will list some; Gig wise: Brixton Academy, Westfest, Tranz-mission, Frantic @ Koko, Atomik Weekender, Storm, Escape, Bionic, all the AWsum events and the Bumpin Festival in Bilbao in Spain, that was a surreal gig. Music Wise: remixing artists such as John O Callaghan, Styles & Breeze, Warp Brothers, Gammer, BK & Technikal has just been fantastic. It has also been a good year on the album front with the launch of my debut mixed album ‘Total Defiance’. I was also asked to mix a Disc on the new ‘Bounce Heaven presents UK Bounce’ CD compilation too. I have also been lucky to appear on various other albums include ‘HTID 2’ (which reached #4 in the UK Chart) and 6 of my productions were also featured on the massive ‘Hard Dance Awards Euphoria’ CD album. The Andy Whitby & Klubfiller remix of ‘BK – Revolution appeared on Tidy’s Magna Live CD Album, and our remix of ‘Missing You’ went on Wigan Pier 2 CD album which was released by Ministry of Sound.

What moments will you never forget?

I would probably say playing back 2 backs with Andy Whitby at Bounce Heaven and also one with Gammer at AWsum Sexual, as these guys are not only two of the most respected people at what they do but they are two of my best friends, so to play back 2 back with them was just amazing and great fun.

Who's been your favourite newcomer of the year?

There are lots of new talent on the way up in Hard Dance I feel, I have liked what I have heard from of Karlston Khaos and Discam this year, hope to see more of them in 2010 Well I am hoping to go for Best Newcomer myself this year, so if you have liked what I have been doing, then please vote for me :-)

Who's been the artist of the year for you?

For me there are a few, Gammer aka Matt Lee, Technikal and MDA & Spherical I would say have all had a good year.

What's been your favourite label of the year?

I think that AWsum has had a fantastic year and will have an even better year in 2010 by the looks of things.

What do you think has been the best track of the year?

I would have to say ‘Gammer – Chainsaw (Matt Lee remix)’ it has been in nearly every set of mine all year, it never fails.

What's been your favourite event of the year?

There are 2 events which really stand out for me, one is AWsum Remix in London, I was playing a bounce classics set and all I can remember is the atmosphere being electric, the crowd were screaming on every tune that a dropped I got goose bumps. The second being AWsum Escape 2 in Swansea, everyone that knows me, knows that I LOVE playing in Wales, this event summed up why! The crowds are second to none and the new venue for Escape is out of this world. I can’t wait to see if there is an AWsum Escape 3 for 2010.

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you?

There are always funny stories from each weekend especially with me and there’s Jack Daniels involved, but I would have to say the funniest thing which stands out for me, was when I had picked Andy Whitby up from the airport and then drove straight to Escape in the Park. We had stopped off for a drink and a bite to eat, and then bombed down the motorway only to look at each other to say ‘Its noisy in here isn’t it’ we then both looked round at the same time to realised the boot was open the whole time, DJ bag was in there too it somehow didn’t fall out. Probably a ‘You had to be there’ moment but it was hilarious. What do you have planned for the next year?

2010 will hopefully be just as good as 2009 and more so, there are plans for an artist album with my partner in crime Andy Whitby, there will also be a ‘Total Defiance Summer Anthems’ album coming out too. There is also the launch of ‘The Klubfiller Show’ in January, which is basically a free download for people to see what tracks are doing it for me in the clubs at the moment and also some sneaky exclusives from the studio.
