Mike Steventon - My Year In Hard Dance

What's been your biggest achievement of the year?

I've had a few cool things happen this year. Having my track 'Filthy Animal' at number 1 in the Hard Dance chart on trackitdown.net was good also hearing it played infront of 4000 people by Alex Kidd on the main stage of Westfest was amazing! My biggest achievement has to be having my remix of Marcell Woods' 'Cherry Blossom' (Cherry Pumped) played on radio 1. As an up and coming artist it was really exciting to hear it on there.

What moments will you never forget?

Hearing 'Filthy Animal' at Westfest has to be the one for me. I've been going to Westfest since the first one so that was amazing.

Who's been your favourite newcomer of the year?

Swankie Dj & Kashi for keeping the bass lines in their Hardstyle!

Who's been the artist of the year for you?

That's a tough question, Hard Dance has changed a lot over the past few years especially in Hardstyle. You can't deny the amazing production skills of people like Showtek and Headhunterz but I personally prefer the bass line sound. Swankie Dj & Kashi have really done well to keep the sound alive in the UK and I have big respect for them for that. Also Trance Generators deserve some recondition as they have been pioneers for such a long time but my favourite artist has to be Kidd Kaos. His sound is unique and bang up to date and I don't know many people who have managed to match the sheer volume of releases he has this year, big respect. A close contender was Iain Cross he is really doing the business in Hard Trance at the min amazing stuff!

Future Sound Corporation

What do you think has been the best track of the year?

So many great tunes flying about but Lengo's 'Life in x' has for me been one of the best Hard Trance releases for a very long time. Slideout needs to make more music because the man is a legend!

What's been your favourite event of the year?

In Search of Sunrise tour at Privilage Ibiza if that counts? If not Westfest.

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you?

Bumping into The Fridy Night Project's Justin Lee Collins and getting him to do a video with me saying 'Mike Steventon, Hardstyle dj, good times I think so'lol Always a giggle!

What do you have planned for the next year?

The next 6 months will be mainly concentrating on finishing my degree but I will also be finding time to get some more work done in the studio. I have a few collaborations planned also a remix and my next solo release scheduled soon. Once the degree is over I will be working hard on producing some upto date throbbing Bass Line Hardstyle and Hard Trance.
