My Year In Hard Dance

P.H.A.T.T.

It's been a good year for Hard Dance with the production quality getting more clean and smarter and producers being more innovative, borrowing some concepts from the old but introducing it into fresh new sounds.

Apart from the newer generation pretty much taking over the scene like Technikal, SQ and MDA & Spherical the legends has also stepped it up this year. BK has really been on fire this year and with the introduction of Lisa Lashes' label things are really looking good.

My P.H.A.T.T. remix of the classic CRW 'I Feel Love' was by far the biggest release I had this year and it was also one of the best selling and critically acclaimed tracks in the scene, reaching TOP40 spots on the iTunes dance charts in the UK and the US, as well as gaining support on Radio 1 and featuring on various compilation CD's including Cream Summer 2007 on Ministry of Sound. It sums up the year for me as it's borrowing from the old to move forward. The guitar-esque and simple riff from 'I Feel Love' brought back a lot of nostalgic memories for clubbers and reminded them what they loved about the scene. Taking that emotion and reworking it into a modern anthem isn't always easy but the fact that it was so well received and gained support from DJ across various genres in the dance world shows evidence that in an era of rehashed classic covers, you can't beat the quality of the real deal.

2008 is looking great, and with the Nukleuz stable coming back in full swing I feel the scene will be stronger and even better than it's ever been.
