What tune has defined this year in hard dance for you?
This year has been phenomenal for hard dance. Picking one single track to sum up the entire year is tough, if not impossible! Showtek - 'FTS' is pure dynamite. Who doesn't get ripped with goosebumps everytime that breakdown bellows from the speakers? I live for hardstyle baby! Dark by Design's 'Schranz n Tings' definitely deserves a mention too. It never fails to tear a dancefloor apart. This year has also been a great year for new producers, next year is definitely set to take off!
What has been your biggest achievement of the year?
Without a doubt it has to be the work I've done on my productions, especially with Gaz West (Dark by Design). Gaz and I share similar tastes in music, and I think we really managed to bring out a much darker side of hard dance. Pure audio nightmares! I'd also not had much experience with collaborations before that, so it was quite fresh for me. I also finally launched the Symtal MySpace in July! That's been hugely successful, clocking up over 27,000 plays in the first 6 months (about 150 plays per day). Insane!
What moments in the last year will you always remember?
Standing on the stairs at Goodgreef, looking over a sea of dancing people and hearing that first crying baby of 'F.E.A.R'. I think that is without a doubt my most amazing experience of the year. Straight out of the studio, so it was the first time I'd heard it played out at a club (as any producer will tell you, it's entirely different to hearing it in the studio!) - I was absolutely stoked at how well that went down.
What exciting things do you have planned for next year?
2008 is going to be a huge one! I already have 3 tracks (F.E.A.R, The Rage and Techno Terror) lined up for release on Dark by Design Recordings, and will definitely be spending a lot more time in the studio. I'm also heading to Australia towards the end of January to take on hard dance down under! That is especially exciting for me, as I know they like it hardstyle out there! Bring it on!
