What tune has defined this year in hard dance for you?
I’ve released so many tunes over the last year it would be really hard to pick one of my own, although I’ve made a couple of cheeky bootlegs that have gone down a storm that I’m rather fond of. As a label Flashpoint have just been releasing consistent quality trax and one of my personal favourites from last year was Marc Johnson & Defective Audio – Blunt Force. It was on the Flashpoint Industrial Strength album which took a hammering on the way to and from gigs for the last half of the year. It only just got released at the end of last year though.
What has been your biggest achievement of the year?
There are a few as last year has been a bit surreal! I went from having one tune on a white label in 2006 to having no less than 10 tunes signed to vinyl and many more released digitally. Ben Stevens remixing “Politics & Music” is something I’m really proud of. From a djing perspective last year was the first year I really started playing out.and I’ve had some fantastic gigs from the amazing Insekt through to Frantic, A&E and picking up a residency for new night Hostile. Both my djing and production are going from strength to strength and I couldn’t really have asked for more last year.
What moments in the last year will you always remember?
I moved to Portsmouth last year (from up North) to live with my girlfriend and to be closer to London which was a massive change and has been fantastic for me. Djing wise playing last set at A&E in Hereford really showed me what all the fuss behind djing was about. Playing last set to a really up for it and responsive crowd was quality. Production wise I can remember hearing nine of my tunes played throughout the night at the CyberKitten room at Tidy Extreme Euphoria in April which was just mental. A lot of the CyberKitten djs have been really supportive of my sound and I’ve had some great nights there.
What exciting things do you have planned for next year?
More vinyl releases are in the pipeline, I have an EP due out on Adam M’s new label Oktane, tunes lined up for Hazardous and Tripoli Trax and a few others that I can’t remember off the top of my head lol but keep an eye out! Also my girlfriend K8-e and I are starting a label: Atomik Reaction to showcase material we make together amongst others. The first release is our rework of a tune I made for Kate last year called “You Make Me” and it’s got a wicked remix by the main man Marc Johnson on the flip. We are both excited to be putting something back into the scene and making our little piece of hard house history. Keep your eyes peeled for the first tune out soon!
